Thriving in Private Practice Track

90 Minute Keynote by Tamara Suttle, M.Ed., LPC

The Self-of-the-Therapist: Floating Up Your Money Myths

Synopsis: Whether you were raised in poverty or by a penny-pinching father or were over-the-top indulged by a well-intention-ed mother or you filed for bankruptcy and had your home foreclosed on in 2008, the truth is that your financial history colors your clinical and business practices even now.

Every professional counselor, social worker, psychologist, and addictions professional is ethically mandated to engage in self-reflection and activities of self-care such that our personal histories do not impact our clinical and business work in negative ways.

This presentation invites you to identify the money myths that you have (consciously and unconsciously) carried with you into your clinical and business practices and to reflect upon the ways in which they might impact your clinical and business practices.

About the Speaker: Tamara G. Suttle, M.Ed., LPC is the Executive Director and Chief Inspiration Officer of Private Practice from the Inside Out. After struggling way too long to build her first independent counseling practice, Tamara went on to build 3 successful businesses in the field of mental health.

For over 20 years she has nurtured and inspired mental health professionals around the country mentoring and supporting them to find their joy and create their own success in private practice.

Tamara’s counseling and supervision practice and her coaching and/consulting business are located in Castle Rock, Colorado where she is always happy to talk food, gardening, dogs . . . and all things related to private practice.

Mending Colorado's Mental Health

60 Minute Keynote by Andrew Romanoff - CEO of Mental Health Colorado

During Awards Reception (Included with Conference Registration)

Synopsis: More than half a million Coloradans go without the mental health care they need. How do we close that gap? Who decides our state’s priorities anyway? And how do we put mental health at the top of the list? Join us for a dynamic discussion on leadership and change. Learn how you can use your power to shape public policy, become a more effective advocate, and steer our state in a different direction. The session will be led by Andrew Romanoff, former speaker of the Colorado House of Representatives. Andrew is the president and CEO of Mental Health Colorado, the state’s leading advocate for the prevention and treatment of mental health and substance use disorders.

About the Speaker: Andrew Romanoff served in the Colorado House of Representatives from 2001 to 2009 and as Speaker of the House from 2005 to 2009. He was a member of the House Health, Environment, Welfare and Institutions Committee, the House Judiciary Committee, and the House Criminal Justice Committee. Among other achievements, Romanoff authored the Colorado Economic Recovery Act (Referendum C) and Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST), the largest investment in school construction in state history.

Romanoff also sponsored laws to expand screening, diagnosis and treatment for mental health and substance use disorders. More than 50 state and national organizations – including Advocates for Recovery, the Colorado Association of Alcohol and Drug Service Providers, the Colorado Medical Society, the Colorado Psychological Association, and the Colorado Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers – have honored Romanoff’s leadership. In 2008, Governing Magazine named him as a “Public Official of the Year.”

Romanoff served as a policy advisor to Gov. Roy Romer, as a scholar-in-residence at the University of Colorado’s School of Public Affairs, and as a senior associate at the management consulting firm of Greenberg Baron Simon & Miller. He founded the Posner Center for International Development, a collaborative headquarters for 60 Colorado-based nonprofit organizations.
